Saturday Rainbow

For a couple of hours this evening there were light rumblings of thunder off in the distance over the Cascade Range. As early evening wore on it got closer to us, bringing with it dark ominous skies and this.....

Don't you sometimes wish there was gold at the end of the rainbow?

Theme Thursday - Transportation

Theme Thursday

I used a 5" x 7" canvas board, glued on a magazine photograph, aged it with distress ink to give it a sepia tone look, added part of a map, and various other elements in keeping with the theme. I raised the car with double sided foam tape to give it some dimension.

Since this piece is dimensional I had to photograph it and couldn't manage a really good shot. The wording on the car license plate says 'dream', the main wording "Take the road less traveled".

4x4 Friday - Your Favorite Color

Another hard challenge for me, considering that I have several favorite colors. Because of that, at first I sat down and made a collage of those colors, then decided that technically I hadn't followed the rules of the challenge.

I've been drawn to blues my entire life and would consider that to be my most comfortable color, but green is a very close second. The colors of the ocean....two colors that relax and calm me. But, I also love medium yellows and dark reds. So what's a girl to do? lol

Here is my 'blue' 4x4...

You can't tell by the scan, but the blue background paper has flecks of silver in it. The squares along the left are hand stamped, the flower is from felt scraps and is hand cut and assembled.

Just for fun, this is the one I originally did....

The paper squares (the dark green being my own handmade paper) were antiqued with various inks (from Distress to Vivid), then miniature tiles were glued on randomly. The quote was handprinted, with the entire design being glued on to black cardstock and edged with gold Encore ink.

What a stormy looking sky....

It was supposed to be sunny this afternoon, which I guess it was after a fashion. Actually it was more like evening by the time the sun actually broke through the heavy cloud cover. Still, I guess I have to give the weather people credit. The sun did come out.

Of course the sky looked spectacular and my camera battery was dead. I had to grab the snap and shoot and it simply does not take the same types of pictures...Mental note....really must get another battery for that Canon (haven't I said that before?)!

Then the sun started to go down and turned the clouds this beautiful shade...


I had a blast out in the world today....I got to visit a few of the haunts where I often find artistic inspiration (and supplies!!). There's a store in the downtown area called SCRAP, and it's such fun place to visit. You never know what you're going to find. Some trips there's nothing, other trips it's a jackpot. All of the things they have are donated, so there's everything from fabric swatches to tile. This is part of what I found today. What you see cost about $5, and I've got quite a few more fabric remnants and tiles than show in the photograph. Yes indeed, stuff to play with! I love fruitful days like this (and the fact that I spend so little and have so much fun)! lol

Wednesday Stamper - Be Square

This week's theme is to use squares....

The background of this card is wallpaper that I antiqued with distress ink. The squares are stamped with a shadow stamp (Hero Arts), and the various leaves on each square are also stamped images. I antiqued the edges of the card (not sure I like that I did that).

InchybyInch - Places

This week the theme is 'places'...Having leftover map pieces from my art doll (and being enamored of Italy anyway) I figured why not keep the Italian theme going...lol

Travel and places are one of my favorite themes to work with so I made three inchies this week...Italy, Paris, and just for fun (and for dh), one honoring the first moon landing. The moon is a place - maybe not a one most of us think of, but it was fun to do.

You can't really tell by the scan, but that one is backed by silver metallic paper. It looks really cool in person.

Mixed Media Monday - Maps

The theme this week - to use a map some place in the art piece.

I made a paper doll using a map of Italy. Art dolls are new for me, but I like what I came up with. I'm still a little unhappy with her head/neck (remember - I'm a perfectionist) but practice makes perfect I guess. lol

The entire design is mine except for the upper torso. I did use a template to shape her upper body and arms. The head is a vintage image from an old magazine, and I lightly colored in her lips and eyes. She's about 10 1/2" long. You can click on the image to view larger.

Skinny Saturday - Home

This is my first time doing the challenge for Skinny Saturday. A skinny is a 3" x 5" piece of mixed media art.

This is what I came up with for the theme of "home". Except for the background paper (which has been antiqued with vintage photo distress ink) the entire design is my own (hand cut and laid out). The verbage is stamped with black soot distress ink.

4 X 4 Friday - Masks

This week’s theme is masks.

This was a really hard one for me and I've been working on it off and on since Friday.

I took a vintage image of a woman's face, then designed a mask and decorated it with beads (in person it really sparkles). The word 'masque' is stamped onto soft metal with StazOn ink. The background paper is stamped on, and antiqued with faded jeans distress ink. I made up the quote to add into the mix.

It is a 4x4, but I added an extra strip of green paper to back the mask for scanning.
