The fate of this historic 1921 CW Parker wooden carousel is unknown. The mall in which it is currently housed is slated for demolition to make way for a newer, more 'progressive' mall experience. Word has it that it was recently removed from the National Register of Historic Places by the owners, and that they have made no accommodation for it in the new mall. Today is its last day of operation before being dismantled and packed away, possibly indefinitely.
Generations of Oregonians have visited Jantzen Beach, not only during its heyday (when it opened as an amusement park in 1928 it was the largest in the nation), but in more recent years to see and ride this carousel. Our hopes are that this beautiful historic piece will remain in it's original home.
Time will tell.
